1. Composition and structure:

Biochar is mainly composed of carbon elements, with loose and porous characteristics. Its pores are unevenly distributed, with both macropores and micropores and mesopores, and the specific surface area is usually within 400 square meters per gram.

Activated carbon is also composed of carbon elements, but it is looser than ordinary charcoal and has stronger adsorption capacity. Activated carbon is mainly microporous, with a specific surface area of more than 1000 square meters per gram. Even activated carbon prepared using seaweed as raw material can have a specific surface area of about 2000.

2. Application areas:

Biochar is widely used in agriculture, industry, environment, new energy and other fields. For example, in the agricultural field, biochar can improve the water holding capacity and nutrient supply of the soil, increase microbial activity, and help increase crop yields. In the environmental field, biochar, as an excellent adsorption material, can remove pollutants in the environment.

Activated carbon has excellent adsorption properties due to its highly developed internal pore structure, huge specific surface area and rich surface groups. It is widely used as an adsorbent in food processing, water treatment, metallurgy and other production fields, and as a catalyst and activator carrier in chemical and pharmaceutical production.
