Activated Carbon for Mercaptan Removal

11 Jul , 2024

Colin is an activated carbon product designed for a variety of applications in the oil and gas processing industry. It is a low density activated carbon used as a catalyst support in mercaptan oxidation. The Colin product range includes granular activated carbon and pellet activated carbon for direct adsorption or as a catalyst, providing a diverse range of options for a variety of refinery tasks.

The mercaptan oxidation process is an efficient and economical catalytic process for the chemical treatment of liquefied petroleum gas (or LPG) and condensate to remove sulfur in the form of mercaptans. The process relies on a special catalyst that accelerates the oxidation of mercaptans to disulfides at near economical product operating temperatures.

Activated carbon is an ideal substrate for impregnation of any oxidation catalyst that removes mercaptans from LPG, propane, butane, light naphtha, kerosene and jet fuel by converting them into liquid hydrocarbon disulfides.
